The story behind Cashflow Pilot

I built Cashflow Pilot because I needed it.

When Mint shut down, I needed a new way to manage my personal finances. At the same time, I wanted to move away from QuickBooks for my business. Instead of replacing them with two more disconnected tools, I started building something that worked the way I wanted.

Cashflow Pilot is a personal project that grew into a broader financial workspace. The app's current features are free to use; optional outside services may have their own costs.

Where it started

Two changes. One idea.

I wanted practical financial software that gave me a clear picture without making me jump between unrelated systems.

Personal finances

Mint was going away.

Mint's closure meant finding another way to organize spending, review transactions and understand where my money was going. I wanted more than a list of transactions: I wanted useful forecasts and a clear view of what comes next.

Business finances

I wanted to move away from QuickBooks.

I also needed to keep proper business records, invoices and reports without treating my business as a completely separate financial universe. That became the starting point for Cashflow Pilot's Business workspace.

How it grew

From a replacement into a bigger picture.

As I built the tools I needed, it became clear that everyday finances, investments and business accounts belong in the same overall picture—even when each needs its own workspace.

An independent product

Not another version of Mint or QuickBooks.

Cashflow Pilot doesn't claim to copy every feature of either product. It grew from the need for a practical alternative, and continues to expand over time.

Cashflow Pilot is financial organization and planning software, not a bank, brokerage, accounting firm, tax adviser or investment adviser.
